Halloween lights

Explore colour-changing lights for an October display and everyday use afterwards. These permanent kits and smart fixtures are shown in simulated scenes on sample houses.

Every one we cover, in order

The order is the catalogue's. Rank is never printed.

  1. Illustration of the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro
    Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro

    100 FT · 60 ZONES · 20 IN SPACING · IP67

The kit most rooflines should get: 60 lights at 20 in, a real 2700K warm white, and no bad answer in it.

    High-end Breakdown See price
  2. Illustration of the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2
    Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2

    100 FT · 72 ZONES · 17 IN SPACING · IP67

The value kit: more lights, closer together, and a warm white that reads a little cooler than the Pro.

    Mid-range Breakdown See price
  3. Illustration of the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro, 200 ft
Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro, 200 ft

    200 FT · 120 ZONES · 20 IN SPACING · IP67

The Pro at twice the length, for a wide front, a garage wrap or a second run over the porch. Do not buy two 100s.

  4. Illustration of the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism, 200 ft
Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism, 200 ft

    200 FT · 72 ZONES · 33 IN SPACING · IP68

The flagship: three colours inside each head for gradients, a bigger point of light, IP68, and the widest pitch in the line.

    High-end Breakdown See price
  5. Illustration of the Govee Outdoor Neon Rope Light, 32.8 ft
Govee Outdoor Neon Rope Light, 32.8 ft

    32 FT · 96 ZONES · 4 IN SPACING · IP67

A continuous flexible neon rope rather than points of light: it reads as a drawn line, which is why it suits a roof edge, a porch ceiling or a railing where a dotted run would look like a string. RGBIC, so colour changes along its length.

  6. Illustration of the Govee Outdoor LED Strip Light, 32.8 ft
Govee Outdoor LED Strip Light, 32.8 ft

    32 FT · 42 ZONES · 9 IN SPACING · IP65

The cheapest way to get a lit line on the house. A flat adhesive strip rather than a rope, so it wants a straight edge under an overhang; IP65 means splash and rain, not standing water.

  7. Illustration of the Govee S14 Outdoor String Lights 2, 48 ft
Govee S14 Outdoor String Lights 2, 48 ft

    48 FT · 15 BULBS · IP66

Hung, not mounted: a cable of individually addressable S14 bulbs strung between two anchors. RGBICWW, so each bulb carries a dedicated warm-white die rather than faking 2700K out of red, green and blue — which is the difference between a patio you can sit under and a coloured decoration. The controller is the weak point: the string is IP66 but the adapter is not, and it has to go indoors or inside a weatherproof enclosure. Most of the failures reported on the listing are that step skipped.

  8. Illustration of the Govee Smart Outdoor String Lights H7015, 48 ft
Govee Smart Outdoor String Lights H7015, 48 ft

    48 FT · 15 BULBS · IP65

The cheap way into addressable string lighting, and the compromise is the white: it is mixed from red, green and blue rather than lit by its own die.

  9. Illustration of the Govee S14 Outdoor String Lights 2, 96 ft
Govee S14 Outdoor String Lights 2, 96 ft

    96 FT · 30 BULBS · IP66

The 48 ft string at double the length, for a run that crosses a yard or goes back and forth over a patio. Same bulb, same brightness, one controller — but it arrives as two 48 ft strands you join, not as one continuous reel, which catches people out. The adapter still has to be kept dry.

  10. Illustration of the Govee Outdoor UpDown Wall Light, 2-pack
Govee Outdoor UpDown Wall Light, 2-pack

    2 LIGHTS · 600 LM EACH · IP66

The smart wall wash: a cone up and a cone down from one box, and the one wall light here we had no reservations about. Hardwired, so it is an electrician or a confident afternoon.

    Mid-range Breakdown See price
  11. Illustration of the Govee Outdoor Wall Light, 2-pack
    Govee Outdoor Wall Light, 2-pack

    2 LIGHTS · 1500 LM EACH · IP65

The single-direction version: a flat panel that washes the wall it is on. Brighter on paper than the UpDown at 1500 lm, but it is one cone, not two, which is the whole difference between them.

  12. Illustration of the Linkind Smart Solar Spot Lights SL5C, 4-pack
Linkind Smart Solar Spot Lights SL5C, 4-pack

    4 SPOTLIGHTS · 3 W EACH · IP67

The pick of the smart spotlights, and it is solar — so treat it as an accent on a tree or a gable end, not as a way to wash a whole facade.

  13. Illustration of the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, 150 ft
Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2, 150 ft

    150 FT · 108 ZONES · 17 IN SPACING · IP67

The 150 ft answer: 108 lights at 17 in, with a support queue you will probably use once.

  14. Illustration of the Enbrighten Vibe Eternity Permanent Outdoor Lights, 100 ft
Enbrighten Vibe Eternity Permanent Outdoor Lights, 100 ft

    100 FT · 72 ZONES · 17 IN SPACING · NOT STATED

The one to look at if you would rather not buy Govee: Jasco builds it, the finish is better, and the crowd behind it is a good deal smaller.

  15. Illustration of the Linkind Permanent Outdoor Lights HP5, 100 ft
Linkind Permanent Outdoor Lights HP5, 100 ft

    100 FT · 60 ZONES · 20 IN SPACING · IP67

The budget smart eave line, and the only one here that mounts on a wall or a ceiling, which matters if your eave has no soffit lip to hide a channel in.

  16. Illustration of the Brightown Smart RGB C9 String Lights, 150 LED, 99 ft
Brightown Smart RGB C9 String Lights, 150 LED, 99 ft

    99 FT · 150 ZONES · 8 IN SPACING · NO IP RATING STATED

The smart C9: 150 opaque bulbs at 8 in over 99 ft, RGB from a Bluetooth app, and the only seasonal roofline string here that can do every scheme on this site.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price.

The same house, switched on.

Same camera, same minute, same sky. Only the lights changed.

The Two-storey sample house at dusk with no lighting on it.
Before
The same two-storey from the same camera position, lit in Orange and purple.
After

The Two-storey sample house, unlit and then with the Neon 33 on it — 330 lights at 4 in, its own spacing. See what was placed.

Same house, same dusk, each product.

Count and spacing come from each product's own listing; the dusk is our own render, generated by us rather than photographed.

The listing's numbers, our pictures.

Each product page carries what the listing and the maker's sheet say, on the date we looked, and a render placed by those numbers. We do not print prices, rank numbers, star ratings or review counts: a figure typed onto this page is stale the week after it is typed, and we would rather show you what the thing looks like on a house than what strangers typed about it.

We have not mounted any of them. Every product page has a section headed "What we could not check".

The questions that decide it.

Which kits can actually do orange and purple?

Nineteen products here list the scheme, and they do not draw it equally: a kit cannot show a band of colour narrower than one of its own zones, and the zone pitch runs from four inches to thirty-three across this shelf. Which kits do orange and purple, and how tightly sets the pitch of every one of them against the same sample house. Two of the nineteen carry no confirmed listing and so have no buy link on them.

Can I do this without going on the roof?

Yes, and for most houses in late September that is the realistic answer. Wall lights, solar spots, rope under a porch ceiling and a string over a pergola all do the scheme at ground level, and each lights a different part of the front — Halloween lights when you are not going on the roof covers what each shape lights and how many colours a two-pack or a four-pack gives you.

Can one purchase cover October and December?

One strand here changes colour and three do not, so the answer depends entirely on which you buy. One strand for October and December shows the same strand on the same house in both schemes and is specific about what it gives up to do that: no schedule, no voice control, and a warm white mixed rather than lit by its own die. The alternative is a kit that never comes down — weigh it with permanent versus seasonal.

How do I plan the roofline?

Use the measuring guide and calculator before selecting a kit. Check mounting distance and wall transitions so recessed sections and porch edges are part of the plan, and the installation checklist for the decisions to settle before mounting.

What about projectors and inflatables?

This collection focuses on fixtures that light the house itself. Check the product description for what each fixture actually does; a simulated orange-and-purple scene is not proof that a kit supports every animated effect, and we have not installed any of these.

Buying the wrong length is the expensive mistake.

Not the wrong brand. Measure the run first, then pick from the list above.
