What the numbers mean
The same 48 ft and the same fifteen bulbs as the S14, for a good deal less. Same span, same three-foot pitch, same per-bulb addressing. On the spec strip they look like one product at two prices. They are not, and the differences are all on this page.
RGBIC, not RGBICWW. No dedicated warm-white die: every white here is mixed from red, green and blue, so the warm end reads cooler and slightly off beside a filament bulb. Along a fence you will not care. Over a table you sit under for three hours, you will.
Bluetooth, with no wifi. The complaint owners raise more than any other, several of them feeling the word “smart” on the box promised otherwise. No wifi means no cloud: no schedule that runs while you are away, no voice assistant, no Matter. It also means no account to lose and nothing to break when an app update lands — a genuine argument the other way. But to change anything you must be standing in the garden.
IP65 on the string, and the adapter is not rated at all. The listing says so plainly, and this is the part that fails: owners describe flickering after rain and controllers and adapters replaced more than once. Many end up treating the string as seasonal and bringing the electronics in.
The cable will not hold itself up. Light gauge, not a load-bearing catenary like a heavy café string, so a span between two posts wants a guide wire to carry it. And the port that looks like a daisy-chain socket is not one — you cannot link two sets, and people have bought a second to find out.
Who it is for
- Colour on a budget, somewhere you look at rather than sit under: a fence line, a deck rail, a pergola seen from the house.
- Anyone who actively does not want an internet-connected light and is happy to walk outside to change it.
- Seasonal use — up for the summer or a party, down and stored with the controller indoors.
Who should buy something else
- The string goes over a dining table: the S14 48 and its dedicated white channel. Side by side.
- You want a schedule that runs while you are out: anything with wifi. This has none.
- You want to leave it up all year: the electronics are the wrong rating for that.
- You do not really want colour: the addlon is warm white, denser at 24 sockets, and has a far longer track record.
What we could not check
We have not hung this string, and it is here as the budget option rather than the recommendation, which we should justify.
Longevity is genuinely polarised. There are owners several years in, with bulbs going yellow or dark one at a time, and owners whose string died inside six months. Same product, and on a listing this old we cannot tell you which production run you will get.
What matters is what the record is not: it does not show the cluster that removed several other strings from this catalogue — water inside the string body, segments dying at random. Here the water goes into the adapter and controller, parts you can bring indoors. That is a risk you can manage, and it is why the advice above is to treat this as take-down lighting.
One number we cannot reconcile. The catalogue carries 65 lm a bulb; the maker’s own comparison table on this listing puts this generation at 50 — dimmer than the newer string, which fits both the price and what owners say about brightness. Unresolved, and the lower figure is the one we would plan around.
The rest of the small print: music mode listens through your phone’s microphone rather than a mic in the controller, and there are markedly fewer scenes than on the newer string. Neither is a reason not to buy it. Both are the shape of what you give up.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
