What the numbers mean

15 bulbs over 48 ft, a little over three feet apart. The airiest spacing of the three strings here. Fewer, slightly brighter points at 2 W each rather than a dense row.

Sold in three colour temperatures. 2500K, 2700K and 3000K, fixed. 2500K is properly amber and reads as candlelight; 3000K is closer to a modern warm bulb and will match recessed cans indoors. This is the only string here that lets you pick, and it is worth thinking about for ten seconds because you cannot change it later.

A rubberised cord rated to 50 mph wind. This is the actual argument for the product. Not an IP number — the listing does not print one — but a construction claim about the cord and the socket seals, and reviewers who have taken repeated severe storms report no water in the bulbs.

The quality record is mixed. The construction claim holds up — owners who have taken repeated severe weather back it. Set against that, the bulbs are fragile in handling and awkward to replace, and the record as a whole is less settled here than on the other two strings on this page. We cannot reconcile the two halves for you, and we would rather say so than quote the half that suits us.

Who it is for

  • Exposed sites. A coastal deck, a hilltop garden, anywhere the wind actually does something.
  • Anyone who wants to choose their colour temperature rather than accept one.
  • People replacing a string that failed in weather.

Who should buy something else

  • Cost is the constraint: the Banord is longer and cheaper.
  • You want the biggest evidence base: the addlon has a far larger evidence base behind it.
  • You break things: see below.

What we could not check

We have not hung this string.

The failure mode here is the bulbs, and it is a more expensive failure mode than on the other two. They are described as shatterproof, and owners report bulbs cracking from modest drops of about three feet during installation — so shatterproof means it will not explode into a hundred pieces, not that it survives being dropped on a patio slab. Replacement bulbs are not stocked in every colour temperature, Brightech directs you to call rather than reorder from the listing, and reviewers describe the replacement cost as steep for what it is. On a fifteen-bulb string that is a meaningful ongoing exposure, and it is the opposite of the addlon’s cheap gradual attrition.

We could not determine what sits behind the unsettled part of that record. It could be the bulb breakage. It could be people ordering the wrong colour temperature — three options on one listing is a classic way to end up with the wrong box. We are not going to guess in your favour or against.

The renders place fifteen points along a 48 ft line, at this string’s own spacing.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
