Black Friday and Cyber Monday are when a lot of people finally buy the lights they have been putting off. The listings that matter change fast in that week: titles get rewritten, variants get merged, and a link that pointed at one kit in October can point at a different one by the end of November. This guide is about buying the right kit, not about timing a price. We do not print prices or discounts, because they change by the hour and we cannot keep them current.
The specs below come from each kit’s US Amazon listing and the manufacturer’s pages. We have not installed these kits; the pictures on this site are our own renders.
Decide three things before the sale starts
A sale week is a bad time to work out what you need. Settle these first, and the week becomes a matter of finding the listing.
- Permanent or seasonal. A permanent kit stays on the fascia all year and doubles as a porch light; a seasonal string comes down in January. Permanent vs seasonal covers the trade with your own numbers.
- The length of the lit run. Measure every edge you want lit, including both sloping edges of each gable. The calculator adds a 5% planning allowance and suggests a kit length, and is 100 ft enough shows when one kit covers the front.
- How warm the everyday white must be. A kit with a dedicated warm-white channel reaches 2700K. White mixed from colour LEDs stops around 4000K, which reads cool on brick and cream siding. Warm white vs cool white shows the difference.
The kinds of kit, and the ones we list
| Kind | What it is | Kits on this site |
|---|---|---|
| Permanent eave kit | A run of fixed light heads on the fascia or soffit, app-controlled, up all year | Govee Pro 100, Govee Pro 200, Govee Lights 2, Govee Lights 2 150 ft, Govee Prism 200, Linkind HP5 100, Enbrighten Eternity 100 |
| Smart C9 string | Big opaque bulbs on removable clips, colour in every bulb | Brightown C9 99 |
| Icicle string | Short drops hung from the eave, warm white | JMEXSUSS icicle |
| Net | A mesh thrown over a shrub, warm white | Sylampow net |
Between the permanent kits, the differences that decide it are length, the pitch between lights, the white channel and the mounting. C9, icicle or net compares the seasonal shapes.
What tends to be promoted that week
Smart lighting from the bigger brands and seasonal strings are the categories most often promoted around Black Friday, and both are on this page. Which listing gets a lower price, and for how long, changes through the week and we do not track it. Two things are worth knowing either way:
- The same kit can appear under several listings at different lengths or in a bundle with extra segments. Compare them on lit length and light count, not on the headline.
- A struck-through “List” or “Typical” figure is the retailer’s own number. It tells you what the listing says, not what the kit usually sells for.
How to check a listing before you buy
These are the checks that catch the mistakes we have seen on real listings, including in our own catalogue.
- Open the exact variant. Many lighting listings share one page across lengths, colours and LED types. Check that the selected option matches what you want: the length, the light count and whether it says RGB or RGB plus white. In October 2026 a strand we listed started redirecting to a smaller strand of the same brand, and the size we wanted was only offered without the white channel it was sold on, so we took it off the site. A link that loads is not proof it is the right kit.
- Read the title against the spec table. The lit length, the number of lights and the spacing should agree. If the title says 100 ft and the table lists a 16 ft lead, the lead is not lit.
- Check the white. Look for a dedicated white or warm-white channel and a 2700K figure if you want a warm porch light all year.
- Check the rating for every part. The lights, control box and adapter often carry different ratings. At least one kit we list says its adapter is for indoor use only.
- Check cutting and extension rules. Some kits cut to length; others join only in fixed segments, and some cannot be joined with other sizes or generations of the same brand. Cutting and extending has the details by model.
- Check who sells and ships it. The listing shows who the seller is and who ships it. A kit sold by an unknown third party under a familiar brand’s name deserves a second look.
- Check the return window on the listing before you open the box, so a kit that turns out to be the wrong length can go back.
Picks by job
The same picks as the permanent eave lights guide, with the spec that matters for each. The budget band on each card is our own rough band, not a sale figure.
Most rooflines, everyday warm white: Govee Pro 100
60 lights over 100 ft at a 20 in pitch, with a dedicated warm white down to 2700K. The listing gives IP67 for the lights and IP65 for the control box. It is cuttable and can be spliced to fit, and the listing says it cannot be extended past 150 ft without Govee’s driver module.
A long roofline: Govee Pro 200
The same 20 in pitch and warm-white channel with 120 lights over 200 ft. The listing says it must not be extended past 200 ft, cannot be spliced with the Pro 100 ft or 150 ft kits, and that the adapter is for indoor use only.
Lowest cost tier of the permanent kits: Linkind HP5 100
60 lights at 20 in over 100 ft, a tunable white from 2700K to 6500K, IP67 lights and an IP65 controller. Its bracket fits a wall or a ceiling face, which helps on an eave with no soffit lip. It ships as six strands of 16.6 ft.
App effects: Govee Prism 200
72 heads over 200 ft at a 33 in pitch, each head with three colour zones so one point of light can show a gradient. The lights carry IP68. The listing asks for a covered Class A GFCI outlet and for the adapter to be kept dry.
Renting, or no fixings: Brightown smart C9
150 opaque C9 bulbs at 7.9 in over 99 ft, each with an RGB chip, on clips that come down in January. It links to 300 bulbs and runs from the Hello Fairy Bluetooth app, a remote or the control box. The listing says waterproof without an IP rating, and asks for the adapter to be protected in rain.
Warm white seasonal shapes: icicle and net
The JMEXSUSS icicle hangs 80 drops over 39 ft; the Sylampow net is a 6 ft by 5 ft mesh with 120 LEDs. Both are warm white only, run from a button at the plug with eight modes, and are rated IP44, which is rain, not standing water.
Mistakes to avoid in a sale week
- Buying two short kits instead of one long one because one listing looked better that day. Two controllers, two apps and a join in the middle, and some kits cannot be spliced across sizes at all.
- Mixing generations of one brand. Govee’s listing warns against joining Permanent Outdoor Lights with Lights 2 or Elite.
- Buying before measuring. A kit that is 20 ft short is the wrong kit at any price.
- Trusting a listing photo over the spec table. Photos are often shared across variants.
Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price.
Frequently asked questions
When are Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2026?
Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November 2026.
Should I wait for Black Friday to buy permanent lights?
Only if you have measured and know which kit you want. The kit that fits your roofline matters more than the week you buy it, and installing before the cold sets in is easier than in December.
How do I know a listing is the right kit?
Open the exact variant, then check that the title, the spec table and the selected option agree on the lit length, the number of lights and whether there is a white channel. If any of them disagree, trust the spec table and ask the seller before buying.
Are permanent lights only for Christmas?
No. They stay up all year and run any colour scheme from the app, and a kit with a warm-white channel works as an everyday porch light.
What do the budget bands on this site mean?
Each kit gets one of three budget bands: Budget, Mid-range or High-end. They are a rough guide to where a kit sits against the others, not a current price, so open the listing to see what it costs today.
