Plan the route and confirm the exact kit’s instructions before mounting any lights. We have not installed these kits ourselves. This guide helps you prepare the installation; the supplied manual controls the mounting, wiring and weather protection details.

Measure the lit route and the gaps

Use the measuring guide and printable worksheet. Include the edges you want lit, then record unlit gaps and the route to the power supply separately. Count every gable once, with both of its sloping edges.

The calculator includes a 5% planning allowance. That is an estimate for coverage, not proof that an extension cable, power route or segment layout is supported.

Confirm cutting and extension rules

Never assume excess lights can be cut off or hidden in a powered coil. Resolve the layout using approved segments, cuts and extensions before buying.

Govee distinguishes cuttable Pro lights from non-cuttable Lights 2. See our cutting and extension guide for the manufacturer sources and the questions to ask about your exact model. Do not apply one kit’s procedure to another.

Inspect the mounting surface and access

Identify the horizontal soffit, vertical fascia and any changes along the route. Confirm that the kit supports the chosen surface and fasteners. Do not assume every permanent kit uses a channel or mounts in the same orientation.

If the surface appears damaged or its condition is uncertain, have it assessed before fixing hardware. Plan safe access to the whole route; an installation above a garage or at a high gable may need professional equipment. We cannot promise a completion time from a roofline length alone.

Use the wall-distance checklist to record the mounting offset and resolve recessed walls, trim and corners before the entire string goes up.

Locate every powered component

Mark the power supply, controller and the beginning of the light string on your sketch. Confirm the reach of the supplied leads. Check each component’s indoor or outdoor use instructions separately: the weather rating of the light string does not apply automatically to its adapter or controller.

For example, the current Govee Pro product page identifies the adapter as indoor-only. Check the documentation for the exact supplied adapter before planning its location. Ask the manufacturer if the listing and your manual disagree. Have any required electrical work assessed by a qualified electrician.

Final check before mounting

  • Match the model number on the box to the manual and all extension parts.
  • Check the planned route against segment rules and maximum supported length.
  • Test the kit as instructed before permanent mounting.
  • Follow the manual for surface preparation, approved fixings and connector protection.
  • Keep the manual and a copy of your route sketch for later repairs.

If the route does not fit, compare other permanent lighting kits or seasonal lighting before modifying the hardware.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price.

Frequently asked questions

What should I check before installing permanent eave lights?

Plan the route and confirm the exact kit’s instructions before mounting anything. Measure the lit route and the gaps, confirm cutting and extension rules, inspect the mounting surface and access, and locate every powered component.

Can I cut off or coil up extra permanent lights?

Do not assume so. Never assume excess lights can be cut off or hidden in a powered coil. Resolve the layout using approved segments, cuts and extensions before buying, and do not apply one kit’s procedure to another.

Is the power adapter weatherproof if the lights are?

Not automatically. The weather rating of the light string does not apply to its adapter or controller, so check each component’s indoor or outdoor use instructions separately. The current Govee Pro product page identifies the adapter as indoor-only.

Does every permanent light kit mount the same way?

No. Do not assume every permanent kit uses a channel or mounts in the same orientation. Identify the soffit, fascia and any changes along the route, then confirm that the kit supports the chosen surface and fasteners.

Can I install high or garage-side eaves myself?

Plan safe access to the whole route first. An installation above a garage or at a high gable may need professional equipment. If the surface looks damaged or its condition is uncertain, have it assessed before fixing any hardware.
