What the numbers mean

80 drops over 39 ft, about six inches apart. That is the standard icicle pitch. Along a 40 ft front eave you get one string; along the front plus both rakes of a gable you need two, joined end to end, and the listing says they connect.

400 LEDs, warm white only. Five per drop. There is no colour option and no app, and that is why it costs what it costs. If you want the icicle shape in red and green, nothing on this page does it; the smart C9 is the seasonal string that changes colour.

Eight modes on the plug. Steady is the last of them. A button at the plug, with a memory, so it comes back on in the mode you left it.

IP44. Rain from any direction. Not a gutter, not snowmelt, not standing water. An icicle string hangs from the fascia, which is the right place for IP44; it does not go along the gutter’s inside edge.

Who it is for

  • The classic roofline look for the six weeks it is up, at the lowest cost on this page.
  • A front eave of 40 ft or less, or two strings for a front with a gable.
  • Anyone who has decided against a permanent kit and wants the one that has been bought most and returned least.

Who should buy something else

  • You want it up all year: a permanent eave kit. The Lights 2 is the value one and it is IP67.
  • You want colour: the Brightown C9, which is RGB per bulb.
  • The eave is high: this is two ladder trips a year. The permanent versus seasonal guide is honest about what the ladder costs.

What we could not check

We have not hung this string. The drop count and pitch are the listing’s, and the render on this page places the string by those numbers along the eave line, which is the best a render can do for an icicle: it draws the top of each drop, not the drop.

On a large body of owner reports the complaints cluster on two things: a string arriving with a dead section, and the modes button being hard to see in the dark. No pattern of the whole string failing in its second season surfaced, which on this many owners would have.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
