What the numbers mean

It disappears in daylight, and that is the argument. A white tape tucked under a white soffit is invisible for the eleven hours a day it is off; the Neon 33 is a coloured silicone tube you look at all afternoon. Every permanent lighting product is unlit most of the time, and this is the cheapest one here that behaves properly when it is.

IP65 on the strip and IP65 on the control box. One grade below everything else in this hub, with no higher-rated part to hide behind. So it goes under something: a soffit with a real overhang, a porch ceiling, the underside of a rail. Rated to -20°C, so cold is not the problem — standing water is. Put it on an exposed fascia because it was the cheap option and you have bought one winter.

32.8 ft, and it does not cut and does not extend. The maker says so as a safety instruction rather than a limitation. You cannot trim it to your soffit and you cannot splice a second kit on — the longer kits are separate products, not this one plus a top-up.

180 LEDs, so one about every two inches. Dense enough to read as a continuous wash off a soffit rather than a row of dots, which is not obvious from the price.

Assume you will screw it down. Factory adhesive on an outdoor strip is a shipping convenience. Owners split hard on whether it holds, and the variable in every account is the surface: clean, smooth and non-porous holds; textured siding, chalky paint and oxidised aluminium do not, and sun finishes what the substrate started. The kit includes clamps. Use them, use better screws than the supplied ones, and the strip is cheap enough that none of this changes the decision.

Who it is for

  • The cheapest way to get a lit, colour-changing line on a house, by a wide margin.
  • A covered run: soffit, porch ceiling, under a rail, inside a pergola.
  • Anyone testing whether they actually want permanent lighting before committing to a channel kit.

Who should buy something else

  • The run is exposed: the Neon 33 is the same length at IP67. Side by side.
  • You are lighting a roofline properly: an eave kit in a channel is a different class of product. Start at the Pro 100. Side by side.
  • You want a warm white like a porch bulb: kits with a dedicated white channel do that. A colour strip mixes its white and reads cooler.
  • You need more than 33 ft: buy the right length first. This one cannot grow.

What we could not check

We have not stuck this to anything, and the two gaps here are a number and a picture.

The number is the segment count. The listing quotes LED density and a total; neither is the count of stretches the app can address separately, which is what decides whether a scheme reads as a pattern or a wash. No published source states it. The figure in the spec strip is our own estimate and it is what our renders place.

The picture is those renders: a two-storey front lit at this strip’s spacing over about 110 ft of eave — more than three of these end to end, on the exposed fascia this page has just told you to avoid. A fair sample of the texture, a poor guide to the order.

On reliability, the good news first: no cluster around water getting into the strip itself, which is the pattern that removes products from this catalogue. What repeats is the joint. On multi-roll runs the screw-together connector is where failures land — one owner had half a run die at four months, with the connection found burnt black, then hit it again on a replacement. Others report connectors arriving crushed. A minority describe colour going wrong before the light goes out, blue coming up orange on part of a run.

None of that applies to a single 32.8 ft kit with no joint in it, which is what this entry is — a good argument for buying one length, in one covered place, and resisting the urge to build a system out of it.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
