Who each one is for

The Govee Neon 33 is a flexible neon rope, a continuous silicone tube that reads as a drawn line. It suits a porch ceiling, railing or pergola where you see it up close, and the rope is rated IP67.

The Govee Strip 33 is a flat adhesive strip in the same cost tier as the Neon. It is meant to disappear under an overhang, and it is rated IP65, the lowest stated rating in the permanent hub.

The differences that matter

  • Look. The Neon is a visible tube all day. The Strip is a flat tape that hides against a white soffit when it is off.
  • Weather. Neon rope and control box are IP67; the Neon product file says its adapter is a grade lower. The Strip is IP65 on both strip and control box, which means rain and splash, not standing water. Mount it under something.
  • Length. Both are 32.8 ft, and both product files say they neither cut nor extend. Measure before ordering.
  • Density. The Strip listing states 18 LEDs per meter, 180 in total, about one every two inches. The Neon listing gives no LED count.
  • Addressable segments. Neither listing states how many segments the app can control separately, so we do not give a count for either. Both are RGBIC, so colour can change along the length.
  • Scenes. The Neon lists 64 scene modes. We have no scene count for the Strip.
  • Mounting. The Neon comes with 30 clips, roughly one per 13 in, and its product file suggests buying more. The Strip is adhesive-backed and ships with clamps; its product file says to expect to screw it down on textured or chalky surfaces.
  • Cost. Both sit in the same lowest cost tier, so cost should not decide between them.

Which to buy

  • A covered run under a soffit, porch ceiling or rail: the Strip 33, a low-commitment way to test whether you want permanent lighting.
  • An exposed run, or one you stand near: the Neon 33, for the higher rating and the continuous look.
  • Something invisible by day: the Strip.
  • Smooth colour with no visible dots: the Neon.

When to pick neither

Neither is a roofline kit. For a full eave, start at the Pro 100 or compare the Pro 100 with the Neon 33. To judge how much length you need first, use the measuring guide, and see permanent vs seasonal if you rent.

Frequently asked questions

Which is more waterproof, the Govee Neon 33 or the Strip 33?

The Neon 33 rope and control box are IP67, while the Strip 33 is IP65 on both. IP65 handles rain and splash but not standing water, so the Strip 33 belongs under a soffit or overhang.

Can I cut the Govee Strip 33 or Neon 33 to fit?

Neither can be cut. Both are 32.8 ft, and their product files say they neither cut nor extend, so measure your run before you buy.

How many segments do the Neon 33 and Strip 33 have?

The listings for both do not state how many segments the app can address separately. The Strip 33 lists 180 LEDs in total, but that is an LED count and not a segment count.

Is the Strip 33 cheaper than the Neon 33?

Not by cost tier: the Strip 33 and the Neon 33 are in the same lowest cost tier. The difference is a flat strip rated IP65 against a continuous rope rated IP67.
