What the numbers mean

A 45-degree beam. This is the number that separates an uplight from a floodlight, and it is the reason to pick this one. Forty-five degrees is a column of light. Point it at the trunk of a maple and the light goes up the maple; the SUNVIE at ninety degrees washes the maple, the fence behind it and your neighbour’s bedroom window. Narrow is harder to aim and much better when aimed.

CRI 90. Colour rendering, and it is unusually high for the money. Brick reads as brick and foliage reads green rather than grey-green. Most budget landscape lighting sits around CRI 80, which is where the DEWENWILS is.

5 W a fixture, six fixtures. Modest by design. Six restrained uplights on a facade look considered; six 12 W ones look like a car park.

12-24 V, transformer not included. None of the spotlights on this page include one. Budget for a transformer and low-voltage cable on top, and size the transformer for the total wattage with room to spare.

Sealed LED. Not relampable. When the diode goes, the fixture goes in the bin. That is true of most integrated fixtures now and it is worth knowing before you install twelve of them.

Who it is for

  • Uplighting trees and architectural detail, where you want a defined column rather than a wash.
  • Anyone who cares what the light does to the colour of their brick.
  • Installs where the fixtures will be visible in daylight — the cast aluminium and oil-rubbed bronze finish look like hardware, not like plastic.

Who should buy something else

  • You need brightness above all: the DEWENWILS is 540 lm a fixture against this one’s 5 W. Side by side.
  • You need eight for the price of six: the SUNVIE, with the soldering caveat on its own page.
  • You want colour: the Linkind spotlights are the colour-changing option here.

What we could not check

We have not installed these. No transformer, no cable, no aiming.

The long-term evidence is the best of any spotlight on this page and it is worth repeating precisely: one owner reports thirty-six fixtures over six years with two replacements. That is a failure rate you would accept from a professional system.

The failure mode, when it comes, is not random. Several reviewers describe multiple fixtures on the same transformer line dying together, thirteen months to a few years in — which points at a surge or a shared circuit fault rather than the fixtures individually wearing out, and means a good transformer and sane wiring is doing more for your odds than the brand on the fixture. LEONLITE replaced under warranty quickly in those accounts.

The other recurring nuisance is insects. Ants get into the base and corrode the connections; owners deal with it by sealing the base with silicone on install. We have not done this and cannot tell you how well it works, but it is cheap and it is mentioned often enough to be worth doing on day one rather than in year three.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
