What the numbers mean

A photocell, and no radio. It comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn because a sensor in the fixture is looking at the sky. There is no app, no hub, no schedule to configure, no firmware, and nothing to stop working when a company changes its cloud. For a light whose entire job is to be on at night, this is a more robust design than a smart bulb, and we would say that even though it makes for a duller product page.

18 in. Large. Measure the wall. On a narrow pier beside a door this is oversized; on a broad garage wall or a two-storey entry it is correctly scaled where a small lantern looks lost.

E26 to 60 W, bulb not included. Same as the Emliviar — you choose the colour temperature. Do not put a smart bulb in it: two automations fighting over the same fixture is how you get a light that flickers at dusk.

No motion sensor. Dusk-to-dawn is not motion. It is on, all night, every night. That is what most people actually want from a porch light and it is worth being clear that it is not a security light.

Who it is for

  • Anyone who wants the light on at night and never wants to touch it again.
  • Big walls that need an 18 in fixture.
  • People burned by app-controlled outdoor lighting.

Who should buy something else

  • Each fixture senses for itself. A pair either side of a door will not switch at the same instant — one faces more sky, or catches a streetlight, and lights a minute or two apart. Some people never notice. Some people cannot unsee it. If you are the second kind, buy the Emliviar and put dusk-to-dawn bulbs in both, or the Govee UpDown and schedule them together.
  • Coastal or very humid site: see below.
  • You want a designer profile: the Kichler. Side by side.

What we could not check

We have not mounted these. This is the most established wall light here by a long way, and one owner reports four years of trouble-free dusk-to-dawn operation.

Two failure modes are worth knowing. Owner reports cluster on a subset of units failing at around three months — on a photocell fixture that generally means the sensor, and a dead photocell leaves the light stuck on or stuck off with no way to override it. And the metal frame rusts in coastal and high-humidity climates, with reports inside sixty days. Sixty days is fast. If you are within sight of salt water we would not buy this one.

We should also flag something about the brand rather than the product. hykolity’s listings churn: a different, older, well-established hykolity spotlight ASIN now redirects to an unrelated space heater. That is a hazard for a site like this one, because a link that was right when we checked it can quietly become a link to something else entirely. We re-check the ASINs on this page, but there is a window, and if what you land on is not what this page describes, trust the page and not the listing.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
