What the numbers mean

80 lm. Dim. The Linkind is 200 lm a head and the VOLT path lights are brighter again. Judged purely as a path light this is the weakest thing on the page, and if lighting the walk is your goal you should buy something else.

Motion to 15 ft across 140 degrees. This is what it is actually for. It is a trigger with a lamp attached, and the value is that the trigger talks to the rest of a Ring installation — it can turn on when a camera sees something, or make a camera record when it sees something.

One fixture. Everything else in this hub comes in packs of four or eight. A walk needs several of these and the cost multiplies accordingly.

Four D-cells, about a year. Not solar and not wired. D-cells are not cheap and there are four of them per light per year; over five lights and five years that is a running cost worth doing the arithmetic on before you buy.

A Ring Bridge is required for scheduling and for talking to other Ring devices. Without one it is a standalone motion light that costs more than a standalone motion light should. If you do not already own Ring hardware, this product makes no sense.

Who it is for

  • Households already running Ring cameras or a Ring doorbell, who want the path to light when the camera sees someone.
  • Positions with no sun for solar and no appetite for trenching.
  • People who want motion-triggered light rather than dusk-to-dawn light.

Who should buy something else

  • You just want the walk lit: the Linkind is brighter, comes in eights, and needs no batteries. Side by side.
  • You want it to last: the VOLT brass kit.
  • You do not own Ring: genuinely, do not start here.

What we could not check

We have not installed this, and we have not tested how it behaves inside a Ring system, which is the entire reason to own it.

The record is decent and it is a long one, with units reported still running since 2019. Three failure modes recur and each is worth a sentence. Water has got into the battery compartment on at least one documented unit and corroded the D-cells, which Ring and Amazon replaced. The ground stakes are proprietary and are not sold separately, so a snapped stake is a problem you cannot solve with a hardware-shop part. And a subset of units went intermittently offline until a firmware fix landed — which is the standing risk of any device whose useful behaviour depends on someone else’s software.

The price on this page came from Ring’s own storefront, where this ASIN is the literal SKU for the black variant, rather than from the Amazon listing, which would not render a US price for us. Same product, and a maker’s price rather than a marketplace one.

Price tiers are our own rough budget bands, not live prices. Check the listing for today’s price. The price itself stays on the listing, where it is current, rather than here, where it would go stale. The same catalogue drives the calculator, so a number here and a number there are the same number.
