Who each one is for
The Govee Pro 100 is for a house that will spend most nights in plain warm white, with colour saved for holidays. It has a dedicated white channel that reaches a true 2700K, and the run can be cut to fit.
The Govee Lights 2 is for a house where colour is the point and white is an occasional setting. It sits a cost tier lower and puts 72 lights into the same 100 ft. Its white is mixed from the colour LEDs and stops around 4000K.
The differences that matter
- White. The Pro reaches 2700K, the colour of an incandescent porch bulb. The Lights 2 bottoms out around 4000K, which reads clean and slightly cool on brick or cream siding. Warm white vs cool white shows the gap.
- Pitch. The Pro has 60 lights at 20 in and the Lights 2 has 72 at 17 in. The closer pitch reads a little more like a line from the street, and two-colour schemes band slightly tighter.
- Brightness per light. 50 lm on the Pro, 40 lm on the Lights 2. Over 100 ft the totals end up close, because the Lights 2 has more points.
- Cutting. The Pro can be cut and spliced to fit, and goes past 150 ft only with Govee’s driver module. The Lights 2 cannot be cut. It joins in fixed segments, up to 9 light segments and 4 extension cables.
- Weather. Both strings are IP67 with an IP65 control box.
- Mounting. Both use VHB adhesive and clips. The Lights 2 box also includes screws and adapter buckles.
- App. Both use the Govee Home app with Alexa and Google Assistant. The Pro’s listing adds Matter; Govee’s own pages disagree on whether the Lights 2 supports it.
Which to buy
- Warm white most nights: the Pro 100. Nothing else in this pair gets to 2700K.
- Colour first, white rarely: the Lights 2. You give up the warmest white and the ability to cut, and you lose nothing on weather rating.
- An awkward roofline you will need to trim: the Pro 100, because the Lights 2 only fits by segments.
- Orange and purple, or red and green, as the main event: the Lights 2. Its tighter pitch draws slightly sharper bands, and colour is where its mixed white does not matter. See which kits do orange and purple.
When to pick neither
If your roofline measures well over 100 ft, neither is the right size. Look at the Pro 200 or the Lights 2 at 150 ft instead, and check whether 100 ft is enough first. If you rent or cannot fix anything to the fascia, a permanent kit is the wrong product; permanent vs seasonal covers the alternative.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Govee Pro 100 worth it over the Lights 2?
It is if you will run warm white most nights. The Pro has a dedicated white channel that reaches 2700K, while the Lights 2 mixes its white and stops around 4000K. For mostly colour, the Lights 2 gives you more lights a cost tier lower.
Can I cut the Govee Lights 2 to length?
No. The Lights 2 cannot be cut. It fits a roofline by joining fixed segments, up to 9 light segments and 4 extension cables. The Pro 100 can be cut and spliced.
Which is brighter, the Pro 100 or the Lights 2?
Each Pro light is brighter, at 50 lm against 40 lm. The Lights 2 has 72 lights to the Pro’s 60 over the same 100 ft, so the total across the run is close.
Can I join a Lights 2 to my older Govee permanent lights?
No. Govee’s listing warns against connecting the Lights 2 to the first Permanent Outdoor Lights (models H705A, H705B and H705C). Keep every segment and extension the same model.
