Who each one is for
The Govee Lights 2 is for a house where colour is the point and the budget matters. It puts 72 lights on 100 ft, 17 in apart, at a lower cost tier. Its white is mixed from the colour LEDs and stops around 4000K.
The Govee Prism 200 is Govee’s flagship. It has 72 heads over 200 ft, 33 in apart, and each head holds three colour zones, so one light can show a gradient. It is the top cost tier in the line.
The differences that matter
- Length and pitch. Both have 72 lights, but the Lights 2 packs them into 100 ft and the Prism spreads them across 200 ft. The Lights 2 reads closer to a line; the Prism reads as distinct large points.
- Gradients. The Prism has three colour zones in each head. The Lights 2 shows one colour per light.
- Brightness. Up to 60 lm per Prism head against 40 lm per Lights 2 light.
- White. The Prism lists 2700K to 6500K. The Lights 2 has no true warm white and tops out around 4000K; the warm vs cool white guide shows the difference.
- Weather. Prism lights are IP68 with an outdoor-use adapter (not submersible), listed for -22F to 140F. The Lights 2 lights are IP67, with an IP65 control box and adapter.
- Cutting. The Prism can be cut, spliced and extended. The Lights 2 cannot be cut; it joins fixed segments, up to 9 light segments and 4 extension cables. See cutting and extending permanent lights.
- Mounting. The Prism ships with adhesive and pre-drilled screws. The Lights 2 includes VHB glue, clips, screws and adapter buckles.
- Control. Both use the Govee Home app with Alexa and Google Assistant. The Prism adds Matter and 100+ scenes. We make no Matter claim for the Lights 2, which lists 100 scenes.
- Power. The Prism listing asks for a covered Class A GFCI receptacle with a weatherproof enclosure.
Which to buy
- Colour on a budget, 100 ft or less: the Lights 2.
- Gradients inside each light, or a wide front: the Prism 200.
- Warm white most nights: the Prism, since the Lights 2 has no true warm white.
- An awkward roofline you must trim: the Prism, because the Lights 2 only fits by segments.
When to pick neither
If you want the line to stay closer together and still cut, look at the Pro 100 against the Prism 200 or the Pro 100 against the Lights 2. Check whether 100 ft is enough before you pick a length, and read permanent vs seasonal if you are weighing a rental or a short-term fix.
